Report on Family Homelessness, 2012
Growing Up Without a Home
It might surprise you to learn that families make up about 40% of the homeless population in Rhode Island.
In recent years, Crossroads Rhode Island has seen an increase in the number of families needing shelter and supportive services to help the secure a stable home. Our Family Center, which was built to accommodate 15 families, has often had to find room for up to 40 families per night. It is not uncommon that families have nowhere else to turn and need to spend the night sleeping in the living room, playroom, computer room, and even conference rooms at our downtown location.
We invite you to read our 2012 Report on Family Homelessness (PDF, 13.4MB) to learn more about this vulnerable population. We have collected data on family homelessness on both the national and local levels. It is our hope that our report will highlight this issue and bring awareness to the plight of homeless families in our community.
