The air is colder, the days are shorter and the holiday season is about to begin. Most of us are looking forward to being home for the holidays, observing long-standing family traditions and creating new ones. However, for some of our neighbors who are homeless for the holidays, this can be the most painful time of the year. As a loyal supporter of Crossroads Rhode Island, you probably already know that we are the leading homeless services organization in our state, providing assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week to our homeless and disconnected neighbors. This means that even on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve,and Christmas Day, there are overwhelming numbers of families and children staying in our shelters who are in desperate need. Although we can’t relieve all the pain of being in a shelter for the holidays, there are things we can provide to make these families more comfortable at this difficult time. In the coming weeks, you may see our 2011 Holiday Catalog in your mailbox. Please review our catalog to see how your gift will help make this holiday season a little bit brighter for someone who won’t have a place to call home this year. What better way to kick off your holiday season than by helping your neighbors in need? With your help, we can give them shelter from the cold, hot showers, warm clothing, and most importantly, hope . Hope that at this time next year, they will be home for the holidays, in permanent, affordable housing.
