Home for the Holidays: Scott and Janine

Scott and Janine were desperate and didn’t know where to turn for help. They had been homeless, living on the streets or in night-to-night shelters for over a month when someone told them to go to Crossroads Rhode Island for help.

Home For The Holidays: Ingrid and John

In recent months, the outreach team at Crossroads has been helping many people who have never been homeless before, and most of them have no idea what kind of help is available to them. Carlos, a Crossroads outreach employee, recently heard about an older couple, Ingrid and John, who lost their home and were temporarily staying with a friend.

Crossroads Family Center Gets Some Fresh Paint

On October 26, the Family Center at Crossroads Rhode Island among 51 in the country to receive a color makeover sponsored by Benjamin Moore Paints' "Color Care Across America" program. Providence Mayor Angel Taveras suited up in his painting gear and added the first splash of a cheerful, festive green color to the shelter's previously dull and bland walls.

Spotlight on: Timothy Walker, Animal Caretaker Training Graduate

Growing up in foster care in Rhode Island, Timothy Walker says he always observed the loving, compassionate relationship between people and their pets, and wondered if he would ever be able to share such a bond with an animal. As a student in Crossroads’ Animal Caretaker Training course, not only did Timothy get to experience this bond for himself, he also gained valuable skills and knowledge to help him find a career caring for animals.

Spotlight on Staff: Lesly Joseph, Case Advocate

Lesly Joseph first came to Crossroads more than 13 years ago as a social work intern. His University of Rhode Island advisor had presented him with a variety of agencies where he could complete his internship, but Lesly admits he was most attracted to Crossroads because of the convenient downtown location. Today, we are proud to say that Lesly is still with Crossroads and has never regretted his career choice.
