Homelessness is a problem that affects families as much as individuals.
CRISIS INTERVENTION
Our crisis intervention services provide food, shelter and respite services to individuals seeking
protection from the elements. In 2006, our Community Room provided daily refuge to more than 4,000
clients and served nearly 26,000 meals and snacks to hungry guests.
HOUSING
Crossroads Rhode Island offers individuals an
opportunity to find emergency shelter and supportive housing. It is part of our
continuum of care to help individuals move out of homelessness, most often
caused by lack of income and housing costs. In 2006-07, the average monthly rent for a
two bedroom apartment in Rhode Island was over $1,172, requiring an annual household income of approximately $47,000, nearly $17,000 more than the typical renter household
has available.
VOCATIONAL SERVICES
The Crossroads' Learning Center offers high school credentialing (GED), adult literacy and math instruction as well
as remedial help for students in our training programs. The strength of this program is that it has an
open-entry/open-exit format and allows for individualized and often one-on-one instruction.
For students completing one of our training programs, work readiness services are provided. These services
focus on resume and cover letter construction, interviewing skills, and workplace literacy. Students work
one-on-one with a workforce development instructor as they embark on a job search.
