Animal Caretaker Training
The Crossroads Rhode Island Animal Caretaker Training is our newest program that helps prepare our clients for gainful employment in the animal caretaker industry.
 |
| Crossroads graduated the first class of Animal Caretakers in April 2011. Graduates will continue to receive support to find employment in the animal caretaking industry. |
The Animal Caretaker Training program utilizes classroom learning, field observation and internships in animal care settings to help students develop occupational skills for entry-level employment.
The Animal Caretaker Training program at Crossroads Rhode Island is effective because:
- Students are trained in kennel care, animal handling and safety, dog and cat basics, vaccinations and preventative health, bathing and grooming, and caring for hospitalized patients.
- Students learn pet first aid, pet CPR and gain an understanding of animal behavior.
- Guest speakers from the animal care industry and field trips to local shelters and animal care businesses help students gain a wide range of knowledge about career opportunities.
- Training graduates earn: Shelter Assistant-Certificate of Completion from Animal Care Technologies, Kennel Assistant Certificate, and Pet First Aid & CPR certification from the American Red Cross.
- Employment skills are incorporated into the training. They include interviewing, job search and resume writing.
