A Report on Women and Homelessness
In 2011, Crossroads Rhode Island released
"A Report on Women and Homelessness" during an afternoon tea at the State House. The event was hosted by Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts, Rhode Island General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo, Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, and Representative Elaine A. Coderre, Speaker Pro Tempore.
Anne Nolan, President of Crossroads Rhode Island, reported that, "we are seeing the pace of homelessness for women growing at an alarming rate: in a ten year period, the total number of unaccompanied men rose by 5% while the total number of unaccompanied women rose by 65%."
Crossroads hopes to raise awareness around the issue of the growing number of women who are homeless and the lack of information and services available to help them. The event was a kick-off for the month-long "Women Helping Women" campaign.
